Browser configuration
Options on New browser (/browsers/new) control how each session looks, where its traffic exits, and what agents may use.
Browser type
Choose Firefox or Chrome. The remote session is a full desktop browser streamed to your tab — not an extension in your local browser.
Locale and user-agent
- Locale presets set language and regional defaults so sites serve region-appropriate content.
- Custom locale fields are available when you need finer control.
- User-agent can follow a catalog preset or a custom string.
Match locale and egress region when you care about “local visitor” fidelity.
Idle auto-sleep
Sessions sleep after idle time without an active viewer (default 60 seconds unless you set another value or your team caps it). Sleep keeps the profile; it does not delete the session. Use Resume on the Dashboard to wake it.
Team attribution
If you belong to a team, you can attribute the session to that team (or keep it personal). Team sessions can appear under Team browsers and count toward team usage.
Extensions
Optionally attach Firefox add-ons from AMO (Mozilla Add-ons) at create time. Extensions are part of that session’s environment.
Geographic egress (proxies)
Pick a country/city exit and whether you want Residential or VPN egress. You can test an exit before starting. Once the session is created, egress stays fixed for its lifetime.
See Proxies.
Credentials for agents and Login
Store logins under Credentials in the header, then authorize selected credentials when creating the session. On the live stream, open the site’s login page and use the toolbar Login control, or let an agent call MCP browser_login. Stairway does not autofill credentials on page load.
See Credentials.
What you lock in at create time
These are set when the session starts and are not freely changed later:
- Browser type
- Locale / user-agent choices
- Egress exit
- Authorized credentials and selected extensions
- Idle timeout (subject to team caps)
Nickname, notes, team sharing, HAR, MCP tokens, and open/stop/resume remain available from the Dashboard while the session exists.
