Proxies
Stairway routes each browser session through managed geographic egress. Choose a location and whether you want Residential or VPN — you do not configure proxy endpoints or credentials yourself.
Residential vs VPN
| Type | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Residential | Traffic exits through connections that look like ordinary home broadband — ideal when you need a natural local presence. |
| VPN | Traffic exits through a city-associated node. Clean, location-tagged egress for many research workflows. |
Hundreds of country and city options are available.
Choosing an exit
On New browser:
- Open the egress picker
- Search or filter by country / city
- Choose Residential or VPN
- Optionally test the exit before you start
- Start the session
Leave egress unset only if you are fine with the default for your organization.
Locked for the session
Egress is fixed for the lifetime of the session. To change region or type, create a new browser.
